One-Skillet Italian Sausage Pasta

  • 3/4 pound Italian pork sausage
  • 1-1/4 cups water
  • 1 can (14.5 oz each) Hunt's® Diced Tomatoes with Basil, Garlic and Oregano, undrained
  • 1 cup Hunt's® Tomato Sauce
  • 8 ounces dry penne pasta, uncooked
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  1. Heat large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sausage; cook 5 minutes, breaking apart with spoon to crumble. Drain; return to skillet.
  2. Add water, undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce and pasta to skillet; stir to combine. Bring to a boil. Cover; reduce heat and cook 15 minutes or until pasta is tender.
  3. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Serve with additional Parmesan cheese, if desired.

Cook's Tip

Serve Alexia® Artisan Ciabatta Rolls, prepared according to package directions, with the pasta dish.

To make it cook faster (late dinner), I used Ronzoni's Quick Cook rotini pasta and I didn't have sauce so I skipped that part. Only needed to simmer about 8 minutes. It was delicious and a big hit even with the picky toddler. This will stay in my rotation.

I was reading the comments. Why do some people have absolutely NO CLASS. The person that made the comment about it looks like vomit in a pan. If you cannot say something nice than don't say anything at all, because it shows how stupid you really are. I haven't tried the recipe yet, but will do so and add a few spices and some garlic and I just bet it will be delicious.

I make this by adding mushrooms, onion, garlic, a little shredded carrot and whatever else sounds good to the sauce. Instead of penne, I use the Vegetini to make spiral "pasta" from green squash for a lower cal dish. Just add fresh basil and a little parm at the end. De-lish!!

I added some chopped onion, chopped fresh mushrooms to the sausage, and some minced garlic. I added some oregano & basil (both dried) to the sauce. I cooked the pasta on the side. The sauce is thin, but has excellent flavor (attributed also to the Hot Sausage I used). The sauce absorbes into the pasta, and is an excellent, quick, meal. And to think the reason I came upon it was to find a way to use up the Hunts Tomato Sauce cans in my pantry. I'll be making this again soon. Hunts.com is a really good website. Thanks!

What's not to love, easy and delicious. I had a bag of precooked sausage crumbles I normally use for pizza, so I just put every thing into the skillet and cooked it. I hate washing the pasta pot. Thanks for the great recipe.
