Ingredients

  • 2 cans (8 oz each) Hunt's® Tomato Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 pound extra lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup dry instant white rice, uncooked
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Mix tomato sauce and sugar in large skillet; set aside.
  2. Combine egg, meat, rice, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper in large bowl. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place in skillet with sauce; spoon sauce over meatballs.
  3. Cook over medium heat until sauce comes to a boil. Cover skillet with lid. Reduce heat to low; simmer 20 minutes, or until meatballs are no longer pink in centers (160°F).

I tried this recipe with quinoa instead of rice and boy was it a hit! By the way, it doesn't have to have instant rice, regular rice works fine.

This is one of my husbands favorite meals! We usually combine 3/4 lb ground round to 1/4 lb ground venison and it not only is the best tasting, it also stretches your ground beef.

I made this for my boys and they loved it.They have only had store bought meatballs and definitely preferred the home made recipe.
