Directions

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions, omitting salt.
  2. Meanwhile, cook sausage in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until crumbled and no longer pink, stirring occasionally; drain. Add undrained tomatoes and tomato paste; mix well. Reduce heat to low; simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Transfer sausage mixture to medium bowl; set aside.
  3. Drain pasta in colander. Place half of pasta in same skillet; top with half each of the sausage mixture and cheese. Repeat all layers. Cover skillet with lid. Place over medium heat; cook 5 minutes or until all layers are hot and cheese melts. Remove from heat; let stand 1 minute before serving.

Cook's Tip

Campanelle pasta is a medium-size pasta with a trumpet or flower shape.

My husband hates lasagna, but loves this dish.....so I just call it skillet pasta. I like that it is so much easier to make than regular lasagna but tastes so good.

Ths is an excellent recipe. The only change that I did was omit the 2 cans of diced tomatoes and the 1 can of tomato paste and substited 1 can of the Hunts spaghetti sauce (26.5 oz) and I used about 10 ounces of the pasta.. My husband just loved this and the kids, too. I will do this again and again!!!

Made a lot of food, and I agree that the 6 oz pasta was mistake. Also used part ground beef as all sausage is to spicy for us. dish did taste great and we did enjoy but really prefer lasagna from the oven. Guess this old dog is hard to teach new tricks!!!!!!

This dish was amazing! My boyfriend and I cooked it for a quick dinner, and it was ready fat. We had enough for dinner for two and lunches for each of us for three days! This recipe makes so much food, and it is DELICIOUS!! Note, we used ground beef instead of Italian sausage because we prefer the taste, and we cooked 16 oz of pasta (I think 6 oz was a typo?).
